Apple To Rollout Ethnically Diverse Emoji

On scrolling through Apple’s emoji, one can see 12 flags of different countries, hearts on 13 different forms, 58 types of smileys and 63 types of animals. Apple’s emoji even has two homosexual couples. However, when you want to look for a diversification of emoji that is based on ethnicity, there are hardly any options. This has now compelled the technology giant to offer a whole new set of emoji that will take diversification into account.
Katie Cotton, Vice President of Apple was quoted by MTV saying:
“Our emoji characters are based on the Unicode standard, which is necessary for them to be displayed properly across many platforms. There needs to be more diversity in the emoji character set, and we have been working closely with the Unicode Consortium in an effort to update the standard.”
In typical Apple fashion, the company officials are being secretive and not specific about the date of a rollout for this update. This latest move from Apple after large number of Apple users and celebrities including the very popular and controversial Miley Cyrus complained about need for multicultural options for Apple emoji on Twitter and the Internet as a whole via petitions.
