2014 recap: Online poker’s biggest winners and losers
2014 was a fabulous year for online poker and 2015 promises to be even better. As we take the plunge into yet another season, let us reflect back on how 2014 was, especially for big name poker pros. Hence, here we list some of the biggest winners and losers in online poker in the year gone by.
None other than Dan “jungleman12” Cates was 2014’s biggest online winner with winnings worth $2,805,751 on Full Tilt Poker. With his $631,288 winnings on PokerStars, Cates’ total winnings add up to $3,437,039. Despite being numero uno, Cates did not better Niklas “ragen70” Heinecker’s 2013 total of $6,190,599.
Mikael “punting-peddler” Thuritz, despite a spirited performance, had to settle for the number two position with a profit of $2,572,989. Patrik “FinddaGrind” Antonius rounded up the top three with an impressive total winning tally of $1,683,538 in 2014.
The biggest losers list of 2014 in online poker boasts of some of the biggest names in the world of poker. Gus Hansen has topped in 2014 with losses worth $5,864,263. He has witnessed a downfall in last couple of years after dropping $8,461,472 in 2013 and $3,204,539 in 2012.
Poker legend Phil “Polarizing” Ivey too had a terrible 2014 with all the lawsuits off the felt. On the felt, especially online, Ivey’s year was not great either. Phil lost $2,372,298 in 2014, finishing second on the list behind is former FTP colleague Hansen.
Viktor “Isildur1” Blom is never far away from such lists. He ended up in number three position dropping $1,698,911 in 2014. Another big name Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, too lost $1,092,098 in the year gone by.
